Shropshire Council who own The Shrewsbury Sports Village have given a time window to receive comments from users of the centre, like ourselves with the pickleball, regarding their proposed million pound redevelopment. As probably the largest & most rapidly growing group using the facility it is important we have our say & do it now.
Pickleball Central UK would like for its members:
ORANGE LINES painting (rather than the tape we have laid) for the kitchen lines on all 8 courts (budget given was ~£800 which the council refused a few weeks ago) We have to keep re-laying the tapes...and the sports centre is not even helping with this!
Sports Village to PURCHASE THEIR OWN PICKLEBALL NETS - as other leisure centres have done & are doing as demand for pickleball increases. Currently Pickleball Central kindly allow our equipment to be used for other public bookings, which are increasing in number & bring the council revenue.
Proposal of resurfacing appropriately for OUTDOOR DEDICATED pickleball courts on the netball courts outside - 4 courts to start with. This still leaves 2 netball courts in use.
Ask the council to research & give us INDOOR COURTS at the bowling centre from April to October to put in indoor pickleball courts & have our own space. The bowlers do not use the centre in the summer & the place loses money currently.
Possibility of one indoor court in the area where the current gym is, when the redevelopment takes place.
You can help our group to achieve these goals by talking to a councillor at the sports village, going to the website and using the QR code to express your comments (see the photo)
Many thanks!
